Converting the Temperature from Celsius to Fahrenheit

In converting the temperature from Celsius to Fahrenheit the formula is F = (9/5)C + 32.

Converting the Temperature from Celsius to Fahrenheit

Steps of converting from Celsius (°C) to Fahrenheit (°F)

Step I: Multiply the number of degree by 9.

Step II: Divide the product by 5.

Step III: Add 32 to the result.

For Example:

1. Convert 40 °C to the Fahrenheit scale.

Solution:

Step I: Multiply the number of degree by 9.

= 40° × 9

= 360°

Step II: Divide the product by 5.

= 360° ÷ 5

= 72°

Step III: Add 32 to the result.

= 72 + 32

= 104° F

Therefore, 40° C = 104° F

2. Convert 30°C to the Fahrenheit scale.

Solution:

Step I: Multiply the number of degree by 9.

= 30° × 9

= 270°

Step II: Divide the product by 5.

= 270° ÷ 5

= 54°

Step III: Add 32 to the result.

= 54 + 32

= 86° F

Therefore, 30° C = 86° F

3. Convert 75°C to the Fahrenheit scale.

Solution:

Step I: Multiply the number of degree by 9.

= 75° × 9

= 675°

Step II: Divide the product by 5.

= 675° ÷ 5

= 135°

Step III: Add 32 to the result.

= 135 + 32

= 167° F

Therefore, 75° C = 167° F

4. Convert 20°C to the Fahrenheit scale.

Solution:

Step I: Multiply the number of degree by 9.

= 20° × 9

= 180°

Step II: Divide the product by 5.

= 180° ÷ 5

= 36°

Step III: Add 32 to the result.

= 36 + 32

= 68° F

Therefore, 20° C = 68° F

5. Convert the following Celsius into Fahrenheit.

(i) 80° C

(ii) 40° C

Solution:

(i) 80° C

We know that F = (C × 95) + 32

F = (80 × 95) + 32

F = (80×95) + 32

F = (16 × 9) + 32

F = 144 + 32

F = 176° F

Hence, 80° C = 176° F

(ii) 40° C

We know that F = (C × 95) + 32

F = (40 × 95) + 32

F = (40×95) + 32

F = (8 × 9) + 32

F = 72 + 32

F = 104° F

Hence, 40° C = 104° F.
