To construct a right triangle when its hypotenuse and one side are given, let’s follow the examples.
1. Draw a right angled triangle at C in which AB = 7 cm and BC = 5 cm.
[First we draw a rough sketch of ∆ ABC]
Steps of Construction:
(i) Draw BC = 5 cm.
(ii) Make ∠ BCX = 90°.
(iii) With B as centre and radius 7 cm, cut off BA = 7 cm.
(iv) Join AB.
Thus, ∆ ABC is the required ∆.
2. Draw a right angled triangle at C in which XY = 7.5 cm and YZ = 5.5 cm.
[First we draw a rough sketch of ∆ XYZ]
Steps of Construction:
(i) Draw YZ = 5.5 cm.
(ii) Make ∠ YZA = 90°.
(iii) With Y as centre and radius 7.5 cm, cut off XY = 7.5 cm.
(iv) Join XY.
Thus, ∆ XYZ is the required triangle.
