Shortcut Method to Multiply by 11.

52 × 11

_ _ 2 (Put 2 from 52 in the ones place)

_ 7 2 (Then put 5 + 2 = 7 in the tens place)

5 7 2 (At last put 5 from 52 in the hundred place)


Therefore, 52 × 11 = 572


1. What is 11 + 11 + 11 + 11?

Answer: 11 × 4 = 44


2. Fill in the blanks:

(i) 1 more than 54 = 5 × ___

(ii) 7 times ___ = 77

(iii) 11 times ___ = 99

(iv) 1 less than 34 = 3 × ___

(v) 10 times 11 = ___

 

Answer:

2. (i)1 more than 54 = 5 × 11

(ii) 7 times 11 = 77

(iii) 11 times 9 = 99

(iv) 1 less than 34 = 3 × 11

(v) 10 times 11 = 110


3. How many ears do 11 rabbits have?

Solution:

No. of ears 1 rabbit has = 2

No. of rabbits = 11

Therefore, total no. of ears 11 rabbits have = 11 × 2

Answer: There will be 22 ears for 11 rabbits.


4. In a garden there are 11 children, each student got 5 candies. How many candies were distributed in total?

Solution:

No of children in a garden = 11

No. of candies = 5

Therefore, total no. of candies = 11 × 5 = 55 [using 11 times table]

Answer: There will be 55 candies distributed in total


5. How many wheels do 11 auto-rickshaws have?

Solution:

No. of auto-rickshaws = 11

No. of wheels = 3

Therefore, total no. of wheels do 11 auto-rickshaws have = 11 × 3 = 33 [using 11 times table]

Answer: There will be 33 wheels for 11 auto-rickshaws.
