Table of Square Roots

A table of square roots showing all the natural numbers from 1 to 100 has been given, each approximating to 3 places of decimal. Using this table of square roots we can find the square roots of numbers, less than 100.

Use of square root tables to determine the approximate value of square roots, finding approximate values of square roots by method of long division is very difficult and lengthy. For this reason, tables have been prepared which list these approximate values of square roots for different numbers.

Let us learn to use these square root tables. Since we will be getting approximately values only, we use the symbol ~ to indicate the same. Values of square roots from number 1 to 99 are given below up to 3 places of decimal.
