# Units of Time Conversion Chart

Units of time conversion chart are discussed here in hour, minute, second, day, week, month, and year.

We know that hour hand takes 12 hours to go round the clock. It goes round the clock twice in a day so, 1 day = 24 hours. The minute hand takes 60 minutes to complete one round on the clock. So, 1 hours = 60 minutes.

Again, we know that there are 12 months in a year. The months of January, March, May, July, August, October and December have 31 days. The months of April, June, September and November have 30 days. The month of February has 28 or 29 days. In a week there are 7 days. 1 day is equal to 24 hours.

The standard units of time are

1 hour = 60 minutes

1 minute = 60 seconds

1 hour = 60 minutes = 3600 seconds (60 × 60)

1 day = 24 hours

1 week = 7 days

1 year = 365 days

1 year = 12 months

1 year = 52 weeks

These are the units of time conversion table.

Converting Days into Hours and Hours into Minutes:

We know the following relationships among the units of measure of time.

 Conversion Rule Example Days into Hour 1 day = 24 hours 7 days = 7 × 24 = 168 hours Days and hours into hours First, convert days into hours by multiplying number of days with 24 and then add hours into it. 7 days 9 hours    = 7 days + 9 hours   = (7 × 24) + 9 hours   = 168 hours + 9 hours   = 177 hours Hours into Minutes 1 hour = 60 minutes 5 hours = 5 × 60 = 300 minutes Hours and minutes into minutes First, convert hours into minutes by multiplying number of hours with 60 and then add minutes into it. 7 hours 45 minutes   = 7 hours + 45 minutes   = (7 × 60) + 45 minutes   = 420 + 45   = 465 minutes Minutes into seconds 1 minute = 60 seconds 25 minutes = 60 × 25 = 1500 seconds

Solved Examples on Converting Days into Hours and Hours into Minutes:

1. Convert 5 days into hours:

5 days = 5 × 24 [Since, 1 day = 24 hours]

= 120 hours

2. Convert 3 days 5 hours into hours:

To convert days into hours by multiplying number of days with 24 and then add hours into it.

3 days 5 hours = 3 days + 5 hours

= (3 × 24) + 5 hours

= 72 hours + 5 hours

= 77 hours

3. Convert 8 hours into minutes:

8 hours = 8 × 60, [Since, 1 hour = 60 minutes]

= 480 minutes

4. Convert 7 hours 45 minutes into minutes:

To convert hours into minutes by multiplying number of minutes with 60 and then add minutes into it.

7 hours 45 minutes

= 7 hours + 45 minutes

= (7 × 60) + 45 minutes

= 420 + 45

= 465 minutes

Leap year

The earth takes one year to make one revolution around the sun. The actual time taken is 365 $$\frac{1}{4}$$ days or 365 days and 6 hours. These six hours or $$\frac{1}{4}$$ day are not counted every year, but it is added every fourth year. So, we have 366 days every fourth year. The year which has 366 days is called a leap year. Therefore, in a leap year February has 29 days.

Converting Months into Years:

We know the following relationships among the Months and Years.

 Conversion Rule Example Year into Months 1 Year = 12 Months 5 Years = 5 × 12 = 60 Months Year and months into months First, convert year into months by multiplying number of years with 12 and then add months into it. 2 years 7 months = 2 years 7 months = (2 × 12) + 7 months = 24 + 7 = 31 months

Date is written in the format – DD/MM/YYYY

For example, 28th day of May in the year 2021 is written as 28/05/2021

Solved Examples on Conversion of Months into Years, Days into Hours, Months into Days, Weeks days, Days into Hours, Hours into minutes and Minutes into Seconds:

1. How many minutes are there in a year?

Solution:

We know,

1 year = 365 days.

1 day = 24 hours.

1 hour = 60 minutes.

So one year = (365 × 24 × 60) minutes.

= (8760 × 60) minutes.

= 525600 minutes.

2. How many hours are there in a year?

Solution:

We know,

1 year = 365 days.

1 day = 24 hours.

So in one year = (365 × 24)

= 7860 hours.

3. How many minutes in 6 hours?

Solution:

We know,

1 hour = 60 minutes.

So 6 hours = (6 × 60) minutes.

= 360 minutes.

4. Convert 15 minutes 20 seconds into seconds.

Solution:

We know that, 1 minute = 60 seconds

So, 15 minutes = 60 × 15 seconds

= 900 seconds

Hence, 15 minutes 20 seconds = 900 seconds + 20 minutes

= 920 seconds.

5. Convert 5 hours 15 minutes into minutes.

Solution:

We know that, 1 hour = 60 minutes

So, 5 hours = 60 × 5 minutes

= 300 minutes

Hence, 5 hours 15 minutes = 300 minutes + 15 minutes

= 315 minutes.

6. Convert 20 days 7 hours into hours.

Solution:

We know that, 1 day = 24 hours

So, 20 days = 20 × 24 hours

= 480 hours

Hence, 20 days 7 hours = 480 hours + 7 hours

= 487 hours.

7. Convert 6 weeks 3 days into days.

Solution:

We know that, 1 week = 7 days

So, 6 weeks = 6 × 7 days

= 42 days

Hence, 6 weeks 3 days = 42 days + 3 days

= 45 days.

8. Convert 7 years 5 months 3 days into days.

Note: To convert number of days to months, we can take 30 days equivalent to one one.

Solution:

We know that, 1 year = 365 days, 1 month = 30 days

So, 7 years = 365 days × 7 = 2555 days;

and 5 months × 30 = 150 days

Therefore, 7 years 5 months 3 days = 2555 days + 150 days + 3 days

= 2708 days

To convert smaller units into larger units, we divide by the required unit of divisor. The quotient gives the larger unit and remainder shows the smaller unit.

9. Convert 220 minutes to hours and minutes.

Solution:

We know that 60 minutes = 1 hour

220 minutes = (220/60) hours

= 3 hours 40 minutes.

10. Convert 372 minutes into hours and minutes.

Solution:

We know that, 60 minutes = 1 hour

So, 372 minutes = 372 ÷ 60

= 6 hours 12 minutes

11. Convert 180 months into years.

Solution:

We know that, 1 year = 12 months

So, 180 months = 180 ÷ 12
