Worksheet on Basic Problems on Proportion

Practice the questions given in the worksheet on basic problems on proportion. The questions are related to find the unknown value of a given proportion, to verify the given quantities form a proportion or not and mean proportion between two quantities.

1. Find the value of x in each of the following proportions:

(i) x : 4 = 6 : 8

(ii) 14 : x = 7  : 9

(iii) 4 : 6 = x : 18

(iv) 8 : 10 = x : 25

(v) 5 : 15 = 4 : x

(vi) 16 : 24 = 6 : x

2. Check whether the following quantities form a proportion or not:

(i) 3x, 7x, 24 and 56

(ii) 0.4, 0.5, 2.9 and 3.5

(iii) 2½, 5½, 3.0 and 6.0

3. Find x in the following proportions:

(i) x : 3 : : 57 : 19

(ii) 18 : x : : 27 : 3

(iii) 16 : 18 : : x : 96

(iv) 4 : 8 : : x : 16

(v) 5 : 35 : : x : 14

(vi) 10 : 15 : : 12 : x

4. Find the mean proportional between:

(i) 0.9 and 2.5

(ii) 0.6 and 9.6

(iii) ¼ and 1/16

5. (i) If x : y = 2 : 3 and y : z = 5 : 7, find x : y : z.

(ii) If m : n = 4 : 9 and n : s = 3 : 7, find m : s.
