Multiplying 2-Digit Numbers by 2-Digit Numbers
Multiplication 2-Digit Numbers × 2-Digit Numbers:
I. Multiply 44 by 18.

1. 18 = 1 ten and 8 ones Multiply 8 ones by both numbers 44 × 8 ones = 352 ones 2. Multiply 1 ten by both numbers 44 × 1 ten = 44 tens = 440 tens 3. Add the two products 352 + 440 = 792 |
Thus, 44 × 18 = 792
II. Multiply 32 by 23.

1. 23 = 2 tens and 3 ones Multiply 3 ones by both numbers 32 × 3 = 96 ones 2. Multiply 2 tens by both numbers 32 × 2 = 64 tens = 6 hundreds, 4 tens 3. Add the two products and write as - 96 + 640 = 736 |
Thus, 32 × 23 = 736
Multiplying by 2-digit Numbers:
III. Multiply 64 by 23.
Solution:
Step 1. Arrange the numerals as shown
Step 2. Multiply 64 by 3 ones
64 × 3 = 192 ones
Step 3. Multiply 64 by 2 tens
64 × 2 tens = 128 tens
= 1280
Step 4. Add both the products
192 + 1280 = 1472
Thus, 64 × 23 = 1472
REMEMBER:
The product of a 2-digit number by another 2- digit number cannot be more than 4-digits.
Word Problems on Multiplying 2-Digit Numbers by 2-Digit Numbers:
1. There are 36 flowers in a garland. How many flowers are there in 25 such garlands?
Solution:
Number of flowers in a garland = 36
Number of flowers in 25 garlands = 36 × 25 = 900
Thus, 900 flowers are there in 25 garlands.
