Adding Money

We will discuss here about the different money operations like adding money. Bigger amounts of money are added in the same way as we add ordinary numbers. We arrange the digits in columns and then add as required.

Find the sum of the following:

(i) $ 4238.25 and $ 2649.55

     $ 4238.25

 +  $ 2649.55

     $ 6887.80

(ii) $ 4648.35 and $4987.57

     $ 4648.35

 +  $ 4987.57

     $ 9635.92

(iii) $ 8436.72 and $ 1252.55

     $ 8436.72

 +  $ 1252.55

     $ 9689.27

(iv) $ 5263.68, $ 5138.29 and $ 1000.25

     $ 5263.68

     $ 5138.29

 +  $ 1000.25

    $ 11402.22

(v) $ 7257.86, $ 2945.32 and $ 4268.14

      $ 7257.86

      $ 2945.32

  +  $ 4268.14

     $ 14471.32

(vi) $ 2657.32, $ 1739.92 and $ 4368.54

     $ 2657.32

     $ 1739.92

 +  $ 4368.54

     $ 8765.78

We observe from the above examples that bigger amounts are also added exactly in the same way as we add smaller amounts. However we have to be careful while placing the digits of numbers in columns and putting the decimal point at right place.

Note: The decimal point should be placed in the same column.
