Expressing Numbers in the Expanded Form

We will learn expressing numbers in the expanded form in Indian system and in International system.

We know how to express a number in the expanded form, for example, 23451 can be written in the expanded form as 20000 + 3000 + 400 + 50 + 1.


Now we will express a number written in the Indian system or international system in the expanded form.

1. Write the expanded form of the following numbers in Indian system:

(i) 17,11,359 -

In Indian system 17,11,359 can be written in the expanded form as  10,00,000 + 7,00,000 + 10,000 + 1,000 + 300 + 50 + 9

(ii) 12,36,14,561 -

In Indian system 12,36,14,561 can be written in the expanded form as 10, 00,00,000 + 2,00,00,000 + 30,00,000 + 6,00,000 + 10,000 + 4,000 + 500 + 60 + 1



2. Write the expanded form of the following numbers in International system:

(i) 513,192,611 -

In International system 513,192,611 can be written in the expanded form as 500,000,000 + 10,000,000 + 3,000,000 + 100,000 + 90,000 + 2,000 + 600 + 10 + 1


(ii) 318,257,400 -

In International system 318,257,400 can be written in the expanded form as 300, 000,000 + 10,000,000 + 8,000,000 + 200,000 + 50,000 + 7,000 + 400
