Add Three Numbers of 2-Digit with Carry Over

How to add three numbers of 2-digit with carry-over?

The examples will help us to learn to add three or more numbers of 2-digit with carrying.

1. Add 46, 49 and 26

Solution:

               46            =             4 tens + 6 ones

           +  49            =        +   4 tens + 9 ones

           +  26            =        +   2 tens + 6 ones

                              =           10 tens + 21 ones

                              =           10 tens + 2 tens + 1 one

                              =           12 tens + 1 one

                              =           121

(i) Numbers are expressed in expanded form

(ii) Digits expressing ones are added i.e., 6 + 9 + 6 = 21 ones = 2 tens + 1 one

(iii) Digits expressing tens are added i.e., 4 + 4 + 2 = 10 tens

(iv) 10 tens + 2 tens + 1 one

= 12 tens + 1 one

= 121

2. Add 57, 35 and 42

Solution:

               57            =             50 + 7

           +  35            =        +   30 + 5

           +  42            =        +   40 + 2

                              =           120 + 14

                              =           120 ← 10 + 4

                              =           130 + 4

                              =           134

(i) Digits of one’s place are added i.e., 7 + 5 + 2 = 14 ones = 1 ten 4 ones

(ii) 1 ten are carried over to tens side

(iii) Digits of ten’s place are added i.e., 5 + 3 + 4 = 12 tens

(iv) 12 tens + 1 ten = 13 tens

(v) 13 tens + 4 ones = 130 + 4 = 134
