Addition Fact Sums to 12

In math addition fact sums to 12 we need to find the two numbers that add to twelve. There are many combinations of numbers that add to 12 (twelve).

Suppose Jen’s cousins gave him 8 balloons how many balloons Jen need more to make 12 balloons? Jen needs 4 more balloons to make 12. Since, 8 + 4 =12.

Memorize the table based on addition facts that add to 12:

Addition fact sums to 12

From the above table write the number to make the sum 12:

0 + 12 = 12

1 + 11 = 12

2 + 10 = 12

3 + 9 = 12

4 + 8 = 12

5 + 7 = 12

6 + 6 = 12

Related addition fact sums to 12:

7 + 5 = 12

8 + 4 = 12

9 + 3 = 12

10 + 2 = 12

11 + 1 = 12

12 + 0 = 12

Worked-out examples to find the addition fact sums to 12:

1. Add: 10 + 2 = ?

Count the numbers up to add. Start counting after 10 and count up 2:

11, 12

10 + 2 = 12

The sum of 10 + 2 is 12.

2. Find the missing addend whose addition fact sums to 12:

(i) 12 = 6 + ?

Start counting the numbers after 6 to make it equal to 12

7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12

Count the numbers now, there are 6 numbers.

12 = 6 + 6

(ii) 12 = 9 + ?

Start counting the numbers after 9 to make it equal to 12

10, 11, 12

Count the numbers now, there are 3 numbers.

12 = 9 + 3
