Regrouping of Numbers from Ones to Tens:

Writing a number in different ways is called regrouping.


Let us consider the number 18. We can think of it in these two ways:

Regrouping of Numbers from Ones to Tens

18 ones can be regrouped as 1 ten 8 ones.

Now, consider the number 24.

Regrouping of Numbers


Again, 2 tens 15 ones is the same as 3 tens 5 ones.

More Examples:

18 ones = 1 ten + 8 ones

14 ones = 1 ten + 4 ones

3 tens + 12 ones = 4 tens + 2 ones

5 tens + 19 ones = 6 tens + 9 ones

1 ten +18 ones = 2 tens + 8 ones


Regrouping of Numbers from Tens to Ones:

Let us consider the number 16. We can think of it in two ways.

1 ten 6 ones can be regrouped as 16 ones.


Now, consider the number 23.

Regrouping Tens to Ones

2 tens 3 ones can be regrouped as 1 ten 13 ones.


Again, 3 tens 2 ones is the same as 2 tens 12 ones.
