Solution:

  512 + 791 + 488

= (512 + 488) + 791.  [Rearranging the numbers in suitable order]

= 1000+791

= 1791.


2. Add by grouping suitably:

(i) 303, 262, 197 and 238

(ii) 425, 712 and 0.

Solution:

(i) 303 + 262 + 197 + 238

= (303 + 197) + (262 + 238)

= 500 + 500

= 1000.


(ii) 425 + 712 + 0

= 425 + 712

= 1137.


3. Write all the whole numbers in the ascending order which lie between 96 and 118.

Solution:

All whole numbers in the ascending order which lie between 96 and 118 are 97, 98, 99, 100, 101, 102, 103, 104, 105, 106, 107, 108, 109, 110, 111, 112, 113, 114, 115, 116, 117.


4. With the help of a number line, compare whole numbers 8 and 15.

Solution: Draw a number line and show the given numbers by a dot as shown below:

As 8 is to the left of 15, or 15 is to the right of 8, so 15 is greater than 8, or 8 is less than 15.

Solution:
