Here we will learn 5-digit numbers, formation of 5-digit numbers, place value and face value of 5-digit numbers, successor of 5-digit numbers, predecessors of 5-digit numbers, the smallest 5-digit number and the greatest 5-digit number.
We know that 9999 is the greatest 4-digit number.
Now, let us see what number we get by adding 1 to it.
On adding 1 to 9999, we get 10000. We read it as ten thousand.
10000 is the smallest 5-digit number.
To write a 5-digit number, we take the next place value on left of thousands called Ten thousands (TTh).
The 5-digit numbers after 10000 can be obtained by adding 1.
For example:
10000 + 1 = 10001 (Ten thousand one)
10001 + 1 = 10002 (Ten thousand two)
10002 + 1 = 10003 (Ten thousand three)
10999 + 1 = 11000 (Eleven thousand)
19999 + 1 = 20000 (Twenty thousand)
40000 + 1 = 40001 (Forty thousand one)
99998 + 1 = 99999 (Ninety-nine thousand nine hundred ninety-nine)
The greatest 5-digit number is 99999.
