Worksheet on Subtraction Properties

Third grade math worksheet on subtraction properties is great for practicing and testing the knowledge of the students on identifying the different properties.

1. Select the greater number and subtract the smaller number from it:

(i) 9, 19

(ii) 75, 57

(iii) 69, 96

(iv) 38, 37

(v) 351, 531

(vi) 215, 315

(vii) 212, 221

(viii) 121, 112

(ix) 4237, 3427

(x) 1117, 1171

(xi) 3725, 3275

(xii) 1002, 1020

2. Fill in the blanks using the properties of subtraction:

(i) 349 - ? = 0

(ii) 798 – 798 = ?

(iii) 5179 - ? = 5179

(iv) 1835 – 0 = ?

(v) ? = 1234 = 0

(vi) ? – 5712 = 0

(vii) 2739 – 0 = ?

(viii) 9135 - ? = 9135

3. Subtract the following:

(i) 56 – 45 = ?

(ii) 556 – 445 = ?

(iii) 5556 – 4445 = ?

4. (i) The sum of two numbers is 588. If one of the numbers is 231, find the other.

(ii) Illustrate that subtraction process is the reverse of addition process.

5. (i) Subtract 0 from 379

(ii) Subtract 4785 from 4785

6. Find two addition facts from each subtraction facts:

For example:

(i) 79 – 65 = 14.

For example:

65 + 14 = 79 and 14 + 65 = 79

(ii) 367 – 256 = 111.

(iii) 5417 – 4507 = 910.

(iv) 3928 – 1927 = 2001.

7. Find two subtraction facts from each addition facts:

For example:

(i) 50 + 60 = 110.

Solution:

110 - 60 = 50 and 110 - 50 = 60

(ii) 153 + 73 = 226.

(iii) 378 + 122 = 500.

(iv) 3578 + 2222 = 5800.

(v) 2216 + 2152 = 4368.
