Worksheet on Square of the Difference of Two Binomials

Practice the questions given in the worksheet on square of the difference of two binomials. We know, square of a binomial means multiplying a binomial with itself.

See the formulas to expand the square of the difference of two binomials.

1. Find the square of the following:

(i) (x – 7)

(ii) (3 – 11y)

(iii) (x – 1/x)

(iv) (√5x – 1/√5x)

2. Use the formula for squaring the binomials and evaluate:

(i) (999)2

(ii) (98)2

3. (i) If x - y = 19 and xy = 20, find the value of x2 + y2 (ii) If x2 + y2 = 101 and xy = 10, find the value of x – y

4. If x – 1/x = 7, find x2 + 1/x2

5. If x2 + 1/x2 = 7, find x - 1/x

6. If x2 + 1/x2 = 11, find x - 1/x

7. What must be added to 16m2 – 24mn + 6n2 to make it a perfect square?

8. What must be subtracted to 25a2 + 9b2 – 20ab to make it a perfect square?

9. Express each the following expression as perfect square.

(i) a2 + 9b2 – 6ab

(ii) 1 + 49y2 – 14y
