Adding Doubles

In math adding doubles plays an important role for the kids to know addition facts. This activity increases the math skills in adding the numbers. Adding a number with the same number makes the addition doubles.

Memorize the following table based on adding doubles:

Note: Take the print out of this table based on adding doubles and hang on the wall or make small pieces of cards so that kids can easily learn the addition facts on doubles.

How adding doubles is same as multiplying by two?

Learn the two actions which are similar in both the ways because when we multiply a number by 2 we are just doubling the number being multiplied by two.

Consider the following numbers in both the ways in doubling and multiplying by 2 from 0 - 10:

zero plus zero = zero OR 2 × 0 = 0

one plus one = two OR 2 × 1 = 2

two plus two = four OR 2 × 2 = 4

three plus three = six OR 2 × 3 = 6

four plus four = eight OR 2 × 4 = 8

five plus five = ten OR 2 × 5 = 10

six plus six = twelve OR 2 × 6 = 12

seven plus seven = fourteen OR 2 × 7 = 14

eight plus eight = sixteen OR 2 × 8 = 16

nine plus nine = eighteen OR 2 × 9 = 18

ten plus ten = twenty OR 2 × 10 = 20

Numbers from 11 to 20:

eleven plus eleven = twenty two OR 2 × 11 = 22

twelve plus twelve = twenty four OR 2 × 12 = 24

thirteen plus thirteen = twenty six OR 2 × 13 = 26

fourteen plus fourteen = twenty eight OR 2 × 14 = 28

fifteen plus fifteen = thirty OR 2 × 15 = 30

sixteen plus sixteen = thirty two OR 2 × 16 = 32

seventeen plus seventeen = thirty four OR 2 × 17 = 34

eighteen plus eighteen = thirty six OR 2 × 18 = 36

nineteen plus nineteen = thirty eight OR 2 × 19 = 38

twenty plus twenty = forty OR 2 × 20 = 40

Numbers from 21 to 25:

twenty one plus twenty one = forty two OR 2 × 21 = 42

twenty two plus twenty two = forty four OR 2 × 22 = 44

twenty three plus twenty three = forty six OR 2 × 23 = 46

twenty four plus twenty four = forty eight OR 2 × 24 = 48

twenty five plus twenty five = fifty OR 2 × 25 = 50

Children can memorize the numbers adding doubles up to 25 so that they can increase the skills in adding the numbers orally and can score good marks in mental math.
